Brandy has the smallest commercial non-alcoholic market of any major spirit category. The reason is technical: brandy gets its character from grape (or fruit) distillation aged in oak, and replicating that depth without alcohol is genuinely hard. The few credible commercial options lean on flavor concentrates rather than real distillation, which limits how convincing they can be.
The good news is that brandy is one of the easier spirits to recreate at home. A reduction of red grape juice with vanilla, cinnamon, and a hint of vinegar gets you most of the way to the warm, fruity, oak-aged character of real brandy.
When you’ll actually need a non-alcoholic brandy substitute
For Brandy Alexanders, Brandy Sours, Sangria, and warming cocktails like a Sidecar or a Stinger. Brandy is also a common ingredient in punch recipes and fall/winter cocktails. For most of these, a homemade substitute works as well as ArKay — the other ingredients carry the drink.
For richer, warmer cognac-style cocktails, see our non-alcoholic cognac alternatives page — cognac is a type of brandy and the substitutes overlap.
The DIY route
Our homemade brandy substitutes guide covers five recipes using grape juice, dried fruit, apple cider, and caramelized fruit syrup. Total cost per drink: pennies. Most take under 15 minutes.
How we ranked these
There’s only one product in genuine US distribution. We’ve left the page honest rather than padding it with brands that aren’t really available. If you want options, the DIY route or the cognac substitutes page will serve you better.
